Superdrug launches UK’s first face-to-face weight loss service on the high street

Superdrug launches a weight-loss injection service in its Health Clinics where eligible patients will have access to 1-2-1 consultations with trained nurses who provide personalised support and guidance.
As part of the weight-loss service, patients will receive a 30-minute face to face consultation with an NMC registered general nurse who takes the time to discuss the patient’s weight loss goals, medical history, Blood Pressure (BP) and their BMI. Then, providing the patient qualifies for the service with an eligible BMI, a patient will be able to buy an initial four-week supply of weight loss injections. The service is to help with patient compliance and safeguarding and, as part of the service, Superdrug offers the weight loss medication, Wegovy.
When enrolling into the service, patients will also receive additional educational material with information on the service and medication, a guide on lifestyle advice including a food and fluid diary and weight loss tracker.
A patient will be booked into a follow-up consultation with a nurse four weeks after they have begun their weight loss injections. At this consultation they will see a nurse face to face to discuss any side effects experienced and have their BP and BMI recalculated and assessed to see how they are getting on with the treatment.
Niamh McMillan, Pharmacy Superintendent at Superdrug, commented, “At Superdrug, our aim is to provide people with a range of options to suit different requirements so that they have a wider choice to help them make informed decisions. Providing weight loss injections at our Health Clinics gives people the option to discuss their needs with a nurse face to face and be guided by them so they’re clear on all the benefits and risks, and how to administer the injection themselves.
“The weight-loss service is only available for those who have an eligible BMI, and we have a strict screening process both in our Health Clinics and online so that only people eligible will be able to access the service.”
Prices start at £245 for one 4-week course of Wegovy (0.25MG, 0.5MG, or 1.0MG strength). It is initially available at 11 health clinics located at London Marble Arch and Holborn Station, Brent Cross, Rushden Lakes, Clacton-on-Sea, Leeds (White Rose Shopping Centre), Glasgow Parkhead Forge Shopping Centre, Elliott’s Field Rugby, Liverpool Speke, The Fort Birmingham and Durham Arnison Shopping Centre. The service will be rolled out to all 90 Superdrug Health Clinics over the next six months.
