The All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Wellbeing Economics is an officially recognised cross-party group of MPs and Lords in the UK Parliament. Formed in March 2009, it exists to:

  • Provide a forum for discussion of wellbeing issues and public policy in Parliament
  • Promote enhancement of wellbeing as an important government goal
  • Encourage the adoption of wellbeing indicators as complimentary measures of progress to GDP
  • Promote policies designed to enhance wellbeing

The International Journal of Wellbeing was launched on 31st January 2011 in order to promote interdisciplinary research on wellbeing. The editorial team are dedicated to open access for academic research, and to making the journal’s content permanently free for all readers and authors.

The UCL Institute was launched in November 2011, to build on previous work to tackle inequalities in health led by Professor Sir Michael Marmot and his team, including the 'Commission on Social Determinants of Health' and 'Fair Society Healthy Lives' (The Marmot Review). Current work includes a review of Social Determinants of Health and the Health Divide for the WHO European Region.

The Centre for Health and the Public Interest (CHPI) is a dynamic health and social care policy think-tank, aiming to promote evidence-based health policy in keeping with the founding principles of the NHS. The primary focus of the Centre is to ensure that the public interest is given paramount importance in the development and discussion of health and social care policy. Their falls into two parts. First, it scrutinizes the prevailing orthodoxy within policy making about the benefits of choice, competition and markets and second, it explores alternative solutions to the challenges of providing universal high quality health and social care. These solutions are based on the following principles:

  • Promoting greater democratic determination and accountability in the organisation and delivery of health and social care
  • Emphasizing the importance of probity, integrity and transparency in health policy making providing a new focus on the social determinants of health and well being.
The Centre has an approach which is UK wide and aims to learn from developments within and across the 4 countries of the UK.

The European Public Health Association (EUPHA) is an umbrella organisation for public health associations and institutes in Europe. EUPHA was founded in 1992 by 15 members (12 countries). EUPHA now has 71 members from 41 countries:

  • 39 national associations of public health
  • 20 institutional members
  • 10 European NGOs
  • 4 individual members
  • 1 global member
EUPHA is an international, multidisciplinary, scientific organisation, bringing together around 14,000 public health experts for professional exchange and collaboration throughout Europe. We encourage a multidisciplinary approach to public health.
